Rugby League: SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-15s progressed to the second round of the North-West Counties Cup courtesy of a hard-fought 16-12 victory at Widnes Moorfield.

Despite falling behind early on to a converted try, the visitors fought back impressively.

Dominic Elkin forced his way over before Bowden Morgan followed suit, with Dominic D’Adamo converting.

Widnes regained the lead shortly after the break, only for a fine passing move to end with Jordan Buin crossing for Rangers, with D’Adamo converting.

Rangers under-16s clinched a 38-12 win at Latchford Albion Unicorns.

The visitors started the game well, playing through their sets and both sides defended well.

Jack Connor opened the scoring, taking a great short ball, spinning in the tackle and crashing over to score, Ben White converted.

It took a great long pass from Josh Bradbury to send in Ben White for his first try which he goaled himself.

What followed was great interchange between Scott Booth and Lewis Galbraith on the left wing which left the Latchford winger helpless as the latter touched down.

Rangers had did have to sustain a serious amount of pressure as Latchford had three repeat sets, but the defence held firm and a quick break saw Booth pick out Galbraith for a try, which was converted by White.

Shortly after the break Danny Richardson went over for a try goaled by White, who later added a try and converted it himself, to make the score 34-0.

Galbraith completed his hat-trick to cap a fine passing move, although a late rally saw the home side finish with 12 points to their name.

The under-11s claimed a win at Mayfield Mustangs. Rangers’ under-nines travelled to a strong Folly Lane outfit, where a brave effort saw the visitors go down to defeat.

Robbie Coates scored the solitary Rangers try.

OLDHAM St Anne’s under-12s earned a 10-4 win over Shevington Sharks on a wet day in Wigan.
Centre Regan Croft scored early on for the visitors with a long run down the left flank. James Barran could not add the extras from a wide angle.

Saints increased their lead through prop forward Elliot Scanlon-Wells following a scramble.

Owen Baldwin converted.

A lapse in concentration saw the hosts cross the line just before the break, but Saints held on to their narrow lead after the interval.

The Sharks went close to scoring just before the end, which would have levelled matters, but the visitors showed plenty of character to claim their second away win of the season.

Three Ethan Chiappe tries, complemented by further efforts from Ben Ivell, Jack Haynes, Alfie Baldwin and Max Flannagan, contributed to a 40-12 triumph for St Anne’s under-10s at West Bank Bears.

WATERHEAD under-15s edged a narrow contest 26-22 against Wigan St Cuthberts.
Two tries from Sam Ashley got the ball rolling, with more from Jack Holmes, Callum Molloy and Jack Swindells.
