CRICKET: DEFENDING champions Shaw picked up where they left off as they defeated Heyside Two by 19 runs in the Oldham Cricket Development under-11s Indoor League.
Looking to hold on to their crown, Shaw made a statement of intent by recording 249 before restricting their opponents for 230.
Elsewhere Moorside’s Jack Garside claimed two for 11 but it was not enough as Saddleworth powered to a 35-run triumph.
Sam Brooks scored 32 in a last pair stand-of 41 with Joe Hanrahan as Woodhouses recorded 239 for five, despite Joe Rimmer’s wicket maiden for Royton.
However, Woodhouses’ total was passed as Christian Thickett and Regan Hadfield scored the six runs required off the last over.
Royton won the close contest by seven runs.
Glodwick One posted 263-3 against Glodwick Alt thanks to 16 from Sobhan Mirza, 14 from Max Yeo, and Nathan Connolly’s 13. In reply, Alt could not build on a promising start and fell 40 runs short of their goal.
