EYES ON THE PRIZE: Waterhead’s Curtis Robinson goes over for a try. He later sustained a serious injury.
Rugby League: WATERHEAD battled through the torrential rain to see off Rochdale 40-10.
Conditions were awful throughout the contest but the hosts prevailed following a determined performance.
However, the victory was overshadowed by a serious ankle injury sustained by Curtis Robinson.
He is out for the season after going under the knife and having a metal plate inserted in the ankle.
Robinson had been influential in the match before the incident.
He contributed a try in the first half, along with efforts from Sam Wilson, Jordan Curtis, Luc Kinder and Niall Dunnington-Wallace.
Kinder converted twice to give the hosts a 24-6 lead at the interval.
Two minutes after the restart Anthony Mellor got on the scoresheet, with Kinder goaling, before Jordan Hanley and Kinder himself added further tries.
Waterhead under-14s gave a fine team performance to beat Ince Rosebridge 20-12.
Tries came courtesy of Matty Jackson, Reece Bradshaw, Billy McDermott and man of the match Jonny Aspin. Adam Wells successfully converted twice.
