RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH School came top of the class in a Year Nine mini-league tournament held at Oldham Rugby Union Club.
Cheered on by a crowd of around 50 people, participants did their schools proud by displaying impeccable behaviour.
Waterhead Academy - a merger of Breeze Hill and Counthill schools - were runners-up, ahead of Blue Coat in third.
The Oasis Academy, which is a combination of South Chadderton and Kaskenmoor schools, finished fourth, while Failsworth School followed in fifth place. North Chadderton ended up in sixth position.
Organiser Steve Tyrrell, of Oldham Sports Development, said: “The event went very well.
“The top three teams have been invited to participate in the Carnegie Champion Schools Tournament.
“I think a lot of pupils would like to play rugby more often.
“I work alongside the local clubs, so anyone interested in getting involved can ring me on 07984 454458.”
