Friezland take champions tag

RUGBY: FRIEZLAND earned a surprise victory in the Oldham Schools’ Year Six tag rugby competition when they beat favourites St Joseph’s in the final.
After years of domination in the tournament, St Joseph’s were many people’s favourites to defend their title.
But Friezland clinched a 3-2 victory and will now represent Oldham in the Greater Manchester Mini-Games next summer.
A thunder storm loomed over the town for most of the day, but St Paul’s, Our Lady’s, Knowsley, Blackshaw Lane, St Chadds, Hodge Clough ‘A’ and ‘B’ and the finalists were lucky enough to avoid the downpour.
Organiser Steve Tyrrell, of Oldham Sports Development, said: “All of the teams played some great tag rugby.”
