Mini games prove a hit

PROPPS Hall struck in the dying seconds to win the Oldham Schools’ Basketball Mini-Games final 7-6, at the expense of Knowsley.
Seven sides, comprising of Year Five and Six boys and girls, battled it out at Oldham Sports Centre in front of a good turnout.
St Mary’s (Failsworth), St Anne’s (Lydgate), Friezland, Hodge Clough and Bare Trees also produced some impressive basketball.
But it was the last shot of the day that won the tournament - and a place at next summer’s Greater Manchester Mini-Games - for Propps Hall, from Failsworth.
Organiser Steve Tyrrell said: “One of the Propps Hall girls popped up to score the final basket with literally seconds remaining, when the sides were locked at 6-6.
“It was such a close final, with hardly anything between the two sides.
“Propps Hall will represent Oldham at the Greater Manchester Mini-Games in July.
“In the coming months there will be a number of events, consisting of different sports, where the winners can earn their place at the Games.”
Tyrrell was delighted with the efforts of all the teams.
He added: “The competition was a success.
“It was nice to see boys and girls mixing to play so well.
“We look forward to more of the same in the upcoming events.”
