RUGBY: PUPILS headed to Oldham Rugby Union Club to get an idea of what the sport is all about.
The Year Seven girls of Hathershaw College of Technology and Oasis Academy went toe-to-toe in Oldham Sports Development’s Emerging Schools tournament.
And after several matches, which saw 25 participants given an opportunity to shine, Hathershaw earned a narrow overall victory.
Organiser Steve Tyrrell, who spent time telling the participants about rugby union, said: “The matches were good and it gave everyone an flavour for the sport.
“The Year Seven pupils really took to it and the feedback was good
afterwards. I am happy with how the event turned out.
“I had a chat with them about what rugby union is all about, because we are trying to encourage more young people to give it a try.”
Steve is also helping to set up an under-14s girls’ side at Oldham RU. Call him on 07984 454458 for more details.
