Karting: WHIZZKID Alex Walker was crowned Association of British Karting Clubs National KF2 Vice-Champion following a dazzling display at Trent Valley Circuit in Lincolnshire.
The 15-year-old, from Shaw, rounded off his maiden season by finishing second.
Alex had two heats to make it through to a pair of finals.
A strong start in heat one saw him move up to third at the first corner, but he fell back to 20th following a spin, when he was hit from behind.
He recovered and improved 14 places to cross the line in sixth position.
In the second heat he climbed to third before chasing down the two front-runners.
By lap six he was leading the field and beginning to pull away - only for his engine to seize up, forcing him to retire.
From 12th on the grid in the first final, Alex shot up by five places within two laps.
But a glitch put paid to his journey through the pack, as engine trouble meant another early departure from the action.
Then came the highlight of the day. Alex was set for an uphill struggle in the final race of the championship, as he started from the very back of the grid.
But he weaved his way through the field and eventually crossed the line in third position.
Alex’s resilient performance secured second place in the championship.
This was only his first year in the hotly-contested series.
"It's been a great season," he said.
