FOOTBALL:
BOTTOM club Morecambe pulled off a surprise by seeing off Athletic 2-1 in the North-West section of the Football League Youth Alliance.
In a game played out in driving rain and strong winds, Athletic took the lead through Connor Hughes, who rounded the goalkeeper to slot home from an acute angel.
Good work from Kyle Riley and Jack Laird contributed to the goal, but the visitors were fortunate to hold an advantage going into the half-time break.
Laird had a presentable chance in the second half but blasted over and with 20 minutes left, Morecambe punished some poor defending by scoring twice off set-pieces.
ATHLETIC fans are being offered the chance to boost club coffers without spending a penny.
A new Oldham Athletic FC savings account has been launched to help the club in their quest for success in npower League One.
The account is organised by Soccer Savings Ltd, which operates through the Skipton Building Society. More info at www.oldhamsaver.co.uk
The first 250 fans who open an account with a minimum of £250 will receive a free Athletic shirt.
Athletic manager Paul Dickov and chief executive Alan Hardy, along with players and mascot Chaddy the Owl, will be at the Skipton Building Society branch in Market Place tomorrow from 2pm to officially launch the Oldham Athletic Soccersaver account.
Other activities will take place at Boundary Park the following day when Athletic take on Brentford.
