‘Respect’ rewarded

FOOTBALL: WITH the country’s leading footballers constantly in the spotlight for a perceived lack of respect towards match officials, Chadderton Park FC are only too happy to show how it should be done.

Park have been named the Manchester FA Fair Play winners for the 2010-11 season — an award close to their heart, as coaches drill home the nationwide ‘Respect’ campaign in training sessions.

‘Respect’ was established to encourage players at all levels of football to be polite towards officials regardless of the decisions they make.

Park have received £200 and 14 medals for their squad.

Secretary Steve Lynch collected the awards from Natalie Woodford, county development manager at the Manchester FA.

He said: “We are very proud to have been chosen by the Manchester FA to receive this award.

“We always emphasise that we like to play the game in the right way, and to follow the ‘Respect’ campaign.

“It is not about winning, but enjoying the game in a fair way.”

United come to school
THE Manchester United Soccer School is coming to Oldham for the first time, as part of its player development tour.

The two-day course is open to all football fanatics aged 6-16, and will be held at South Chadderton High School on May 7-8.

As well as learning skills from some of the best coaches in the UK, one lucky participant at the Oldham class will be invited to attend ‘Champions Day’, where he or she will join winners from around the UK.

The selected individual will get the opportunity to experience the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ atmosphere first hand by playing on the pitch at Old Trafford. He or she will also take part in an exclusive training day.

Everyone who takes part will also have a chance to win tickets to see the Red Devils play in a Barclays Premier League home match.

The course costs £69.95 and includes expert training from UEFA qualified coaches from Manchester United Soccer Schools, use of state of the art training equipment and a player diary to help monitor progress and ongoing development. Information: www.manutdsoccerschools.com/2day

Hands-on at Uppermill
UPPERMILL FC are hunting for a new first team physio.

The club, who play in the Huddersfield and District League Division One, would require the volunteer to be available to travel to away games, often held at the weekend.

First team manager Simon Tait said: “This unpaid role is ideally suited to someone in their last year of training to become a physio.

“It may be that they need to secure a placement as part of their course, so I would urge anyone looking to do that to get in touch.”

Anyone interested in the physio role can contact Simon on 07974 231 735.
