RUGBY LEAGUE: SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-16s kept their title challenge on track with a 24-20 victory over Bold Miners.
A win for Bold could have led to these two sides sharing top spot, so the stakes were high.
Chris Bolton broke the deadlock for the Saddleworth outfit by powering over the line, before their opponents followed suit.
Ashley Webb restored Rangers’ lead following good work from Ryan Maneely, and just before the break Danny Lomax crossed in the corner, with Ben White goaling.
Bold stepped it up a gear after the restart and touched down twice in quick succession, the second of which was converted, to level matters.
Two minutes later Bold chipped over the top and scored under the posts.
A one-on-one tackle from Lewis Ralph proved to be the turning point for Rangers, who went on to win through tries from Josh Bradbury and Chris Bolton, and a Ben White conversion.
If Saddleworth beat West Bank Bears in the final game of the season, they will clinch back-to-back Premiership titles.
Rangers’ under-11s were edged out 26-22 by Leigh East.
Matt Fletcher gave Rangers the lead after a fine solo run, with Finn Gallagher adding the extras.
Their opponents soon equalised but Rangers capitalised on a handling error when Nathan Roebuck powered over. Gallagher scored.
Leigh added two more tries before the break, while Roebuck added his second, which Gallagher converted.
A nice try down the flank handed Leigh the lead, prior to Guy Edwards crossing for Rangers.
Leigh went over late on to seal the win.
The under-10s pipped Oldham St Anne’s 18-16 thanks to two well-taken tries from Adam Howarth, and a Bradley Jinks touchdown.
OLDHAM St Anne’s under-13s celebrated lifting the Division One title with a 26-6 triumph over Orrell St James, despite trailing 6-4 at the interval.
Two tries apiece from Brad Burgess and Patrick Casey set Saints on their way, while Harry Warhurst also crossed. Casey twice added the extras, and Oliver Russell produced a conversion.
