Trophy spot-kick cheer

FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Schools under-15s are through to round two of the North-West Alder Owen Trophy following a thrilling 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Warrington.


All square at 1-1 after extra-time, the town team held their nerve in the spot-kick decider.
The Cheshire outfit enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges on their home turf, and

took the lead after 15 minutes.

Oldham came back strongly and were rewarded with an equaliser from Greg Street (Blue Coat) on the half hour mark.

The second half was just as tight, between two evenly-matched sides, who have figured prominently in all competitions this season.

Extra time also failed to separate the teams, but it was Oldham who eventually booked their ticket for the next round, where they will face Trafford.

The winners of that game with meet Stockport or Bolton in the quarter-finals.



ELLA Leghorn was in scintillating form for Chadderton Park under-11s in the North Manchester Girls League.
She struck five times for her team in a 7-2 victory over Ashton Pumas. Also on target were Emily Hockenhull and Katie Bolton.

ROCS under-16s, including four goals from Lauren Steel, recorded a 7-2 win over Uppermill in the League Cup.

Megan Jackson, Anna Moorhouse and Rhema Mears were also on the mark.



ABBIE Ainsworth scored the consolation goal for Oldham Athletic under-12s, who were beaten 2-1 by Middleton Girls. The under-16s succumbed 6-1 to Heyside Angels Clarets.

HEYSIDE Angels Clarets under-15s were beaten 1-0 by Denton Girls, but Angels Blues
under-15s defeated Oldham Athletic 4-1 thanks to goals from Leoni Harland (two), Sophie Montgomery and Phoebe Dunne. Chloe Austin scored the consolation from the penalty spot.

Ella Milovanovic bagged a brace for Angels under-14s in a 2-0 win over ROCS, while Ellie Doggett and Tia Jackson netted four goals apiece for Angels Inter under-13s, who brushed aside Roach Dynamos 12-1.

Caitlin Senior (two), Jade Hughes and Emily Whitehead got the other goals.
