SWIMMING: TALENTED young members of Royton Swimming Club were a splashing success at the Central Lancashire Preliminary Gala.
They exeeded expectations by claiming a host of medals at the eagerly-anticipated event at Bury.
It was the perfect opportunity for 10-year-olds Niahm Campbell-Donnell, Niahm Nugent, Alex Crossland-Robins and Adam Kershaw to showcase their skills — and they did not disappoint.
Alex led the way with gold medals in 400 metre, 200m and 50m freestyle, 200m and 50m breaststroke, 200m and 50m butterfly, 200m and 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Adam dazzled with a second-place finish in 50m breaststroke, while he came away with bronze in 400m and 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Not to be outdone, the girls also impressed. Niamh Nugent’s endeavours in 400m freestyle clinched a bronze medal, and her namesake bagged third place in 200m breaststroke.
Katie Wiseman, Lucy Scott, Ethan Chiappe and Ben Ivell also swam well and only narrowly missed out on medals.
