RUGBY: OLDHAM St Anne’s under-12s bowed out of the North-West Counties Plate at the semi-final stage, after a 24-14 loss to Ince Rose Bridge.
Regan Croft touched down early on for Saints, with James Barran adding the extras.
Bridge soon produced a try of their own down the flank, but failed to convert.
Oliver Depetrillo crossed for the Oldham outfit, but their opponents scored under the sticks almost immediately.
A strong burst from Anthony Woolley handed Saints a 14-10 lead at the break, bringing down the curtain on a rollercoaster half.
A strong start to the second period was required but what came instead was a defensive lapse, which allowed Bridge to nip in for a try.
Two tries in quick succession proved decisive as the top-flight side won the tie.
Saints’ under-nines were edged out 28-20 by Burtonwood.
Already depleted going into the contest, the Oldham team’s cause was not helped by several second-half injuries.
Sam Thackeray crossed four times and was joined on the scoresheet by Brandon Turner.
SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-11s saw off Shevington Sharks 38-22.
