Duo inspire Austerlands

CRICKET: AUSTERLANDS under-15s got off to a winning start in the Saddleworth and District League.

Group ‘A’ action saw them beat Heyside at Thorpe Lane.

An 86-run partnership between Luke Ellis (52 retired not out) and Kieran Mayall, who posted 44 not out, helped the home side reach 118 for two.

Heyside were dismissed for just 47. Beth Garforth, the pick of the Austerlands bowlers, enjoyed a return of 4-0-11-3.

Saddleworth ‘B’ earned a comfortable win over Glodwick after recording 105 for two, with James Howard contributing 51.

Tight bowling restricted Glodwick’s reply to 54 for seven.

Moorside ‘A’ beat Stayley by 40 runs.

Lewis Fay mustered 43 for Moorside before their opponents were bowled out for 82.

James Taylor claimed three for eight from five overs.

Uppermill were unable to raise a team against Droylsden.

Group ‘B’ action saw Shaw clinch an eight-wicket home win over Friarmere at Mark Lane.

The visitors lost all of their wickets for 22 runs.

Adam Temple reached 22 not out as Shaw cruised to victory.

Bamford Fieldhouse bagged a stylish triumph at the expense of Greenfield, reaching their target of 88 for the loss of six wickets.

Micklehurst made 101 for eight before opponents Moorside ‘B’ finished 11 runs shy of their goal when the overs ran out.

Royton went down to a seven-wicket loss at home to Saddleworth ‘A’.

The hosts were bowled out for 87. In reply, Sam Hardy hit 26 and Tom Jowett 21 as Saddleworth comfortably reached the target.
