FOOTBALL:
FAILSWORTH West under-11s go into the business end of the season on the crest of a wave.
Lee Boyling’s side head into the Manchester FA County Cup final on Sunday, when they face Urmston Meadowside at Manchester United’s Salford-based academy.
And the pursuit of silverware continues on Saturday, May 21, as they battle it out with AFC Clayton in the Manchester Youth and Mini-Soccer League Cup final.
As if that wasn’t enough, West have been named Manchester FA’s team of the month for their outstanding performances.
Their form has not gone unnoticed at Boundary Park.
Athletic defender James Tarkowski, who is from Failsworth, watched the team train last night, accompanied by mascot Chaddy the Owl.
Club secretary Michele Loud said: “We are delighted James and Chaddy came along.
“James is from the area so it had special meaning that he made it. He is doing very well for Athletic.
“The lads loved it because James had a kick-about with them and also answered their questions.
“The presence of Chaddy the Owl is always popular.
“It was nice to have our good run recognised by the Manchester FA with the team of the month award.
“It was given to us for the results we have enjoyed but also the fact we have battled on despite losing a number of players to other clubs.
“Lee Boyling has done a fantastic job in guiding us to two cup finals — we cannot wait to play them.”
