CRICKET: AUSTERLANDS under-17s had a flipping good day after beating Micklehurst on a coin-toss in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Replying to 131 for seven, Austerlands needed one run to win on the last ball — but suffered a run-out.
But the coin came to their rescue.
Uppermill captain Tony Jefferys made 50 as his side ended on 129 for three, and dismissed opponents Moorside for 113, despite Charlie Price’s half-century.
Elsewhere Friarmere got the better of Stayley in a low-scoring encounter, and Bamford Fieldhouse conceded against Ashton.
OLDHAM under-13s made a winning start to their Lancashire Schools’ Merit League campaign after a triumph over Bury at Austerlands.
Delph duo Daniel Jones and Nathan Jones made 46 and 36 respectively as Oldham finished their 40 overs on 208.
Bury made a good fist of things with their response but they were 24 runs shy of the target when their final wicket fell.
Royton’s Aaron Tesz claimed three wickets, with Nathan Jones taking two.
Today the under-13s were set to entertain Rochdale at Royton.
The under-15s’ game against Bury’s representative side fell victim to the wet weather.
