THE Saddleworth and District League’s under-15s team went down by nine wickets to the Palace Shield in the Michael Roach Trophy at Preston.

With both sides desperate to avoid a bowl-out, it was agreed the match would be a 10-over slog in pouring rain.

Adam Temple’s (Shaw) superb 57 from 26 balls saw the visitors post an impressive 80 for four.

However, the more experienced home side made light work of the target, completing victory for the loss of one wicket in the seventh over.

RAIN washed out the Under-17s Division programme in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Play was abandoned after 12 overs at Well-i-Hole in the match between hosts Saddleworth ‘B’ and Shaw.

And Uppermill were 100 for eight — Joe Crowther hit a swashbuckling 40 — against Saddleworth ‘A’ when the heavens opened above Leefields.

THE Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s under-13s representative side defeated the Palace Shield League in a bowl-out after no play was possible at Shaw CC because of rain.

With the scores tied at 3-3 after the first 12 balls — one player per side had a go at the stumps — the youngsters took aim for a second time.

And the Saddleworth League made no mistake, winning by four hits to two.

Joe Hulme, of Glodwick and Shaw’s Ellis Forshaw clouted the wickets with both their attempts.

The Saddleworth League’s next game is away to the Bolton Association on Sunday, July 10.

SADDLEWORTH junior James Howard made 27 and claimed one for 29 on his debut for Lancashire under-12s against Durham.

Batting at number six, he helped his team post 181 for five off 40 overs at Shotley Bridge CC — the home club of England star Paul Collingwood — before playing his part with the ball as the hosts were dismissed for 111.

James was taking part in a Roses clash today, with Lancashire up against Yorkshire at Liversedge CC
