Avro celebrate double success
Date published: 22 June 2011
FOOTBALL: AVRO under-14s have been reflecting on a memorable season.
The talented youngsters won the Tameside Sunday League title in dramatic fashion, and followed it up with success in the Manchester County Cup final.
Having to win their last league game of the season against Walshaw, Avro found themselves a goal down with 10 minutes remaining, before Ben Hulme struck twice, the winner arriving in the dying seconds to clinch a 2-1 win.
And after a 1-1 draw with Fletcher Moss in the cup final — Reece Shearer getting the all-important goal — Avro won the tie on 4-2 on penalties in a typically nerve-shredding climax.
