CRICKET: SADDLEWORTH and District Cricket League’s under-18s side are back in action on Sunday, against Bolton Association at Austerlands (1.30pm).
Their quest for Lancashire Inter-League Colts glory was hit by a false start last month when their opening fixture — against the Central Lancashire League — was rained off.
Manager Jim Bradbury will be hoping for clear skies.
Most of Bradbury’s side have first-team experience and Uppermill all-rounder Michael Bird, the captain, is expected to play a pivotal role.
Under-18s squad: Michael Bird (captain, Uppermill); Arron Barnes (Moorside); Andrew Cadd (Austerlands); Jack Stanton (Austerlands); Zafran Munir (Friarmere); Josh Higgins (Greenfield); Ryan Downend (Stayley); Matthew Chadwick (Shaw); Drew Fullalove (Shaw); Callum Jones (Shaw); Bradley Hadfield (Saddleworth); Matthew Robinson (Heyside).
The under-13s also play on Sunday — they face the Bolton Association at Flixton (2pm).
It is a 12-a-side match and will be 40 overs per innings.
Under-13s squad: Jack Manton (captain, Saddleworth); James Howard (Saddleworth); William Wilson (Saddleworth); Callum Faulkner (Greenfield); Luke Rhodes (Greenfield); Tom Goodwin (Greenfield); Lewis Milnes (Greenfield); Joe Hulme (Glodwick); Jamie Symonds (Glodwick); Lewis Daniel (Micklehurst); Scott Nesbit (Droylsden); Ellis Forshaw (Shaw). Reserves: Tom Bradnum (Greenfield); Jack Benson (Shaw); Aaron Birtwistle (Shaw); Rhys Downend (Stayley). Players meet 1pm.
Oldham miss out on Rosebowl place
CRICKET: OLDHAM under-11s failed to make it through to the knockout stages of the Lancashire Schools’ Bob Hurst Rosebowl after a two-wicket loss to Rochdale in the final Merit League game of the season.
Going in to the contest at Littleborough, Oldham knew they had to beat Rochdale, but they were dismissed for 43 before their opponents earned an eight-wicket triumph.
Matthew Barlow (Greenfield) took two for three, while Glodwick’s Sobhan Mirza claimed two for four and Will Wright, of Saddleworth, got a wicket at the expense of three runs.
