CRICKET: GREENFIELD under-15s eased into the final of the Saddleworth and District League Leicester Shield after an eight-wicket victory over Royton.

Ryan Kent top scored for Royton with 34 as his side mustered 102 for nine, but Greenfield — inspired by Liam Parfitt’s 52 (retired) — reached the target with two wickets down and five overs remaining.

The other semi-final, Saddleworth versus Bamford Fieldhouse, fell victim to the weather.

The Saddleworth and District League’s under-15s side enjoyed a 27-run triumph over their Bolton counterparts.

In a game reduced to 20 overs per side due to rain, Liam Parfitt scored 75 off 43 balls to help Saddleworth reach 113 for four.

And they restricted their opponents to 86 for five, with Zubar Ashad producing a return of 4-1-8-2.

Royton did manage to avenge their semi-final loss against Greenfield with victory in the league.

The Group Two encounter saw Greenfield, chasing 58, fall eight runs short of the target.

Abbu Alam scored 44 as Bamford Fieldhouse made 141 for seven against Saddleworth ‘A’, who were bowled out for 100.

Oldham fail to qualify
OLDHAM under-15s will finish the campaign without silverware after failing to qualify for the Lancashire Schools’ Ainsworth Trophy.

It follows a string of disappointing results in the Lancashire Schools Merit League-based part of the competition.

The news was no better for the under-13s. They missed out on the latter stages of the Lancashire Schools’ Hacking Cup after losing to Rochdale and Tameside.
