ATHLETICS:
OLDHAM pupils performed strongly in the Greater Manchester School Games pilot event.
They formed part of the 1,500 strong turnout at SportCity for the first of the Government’s 2012 Olympics and Paralympics ‘legacy events’ to take place in the North-West.
More than 200 primary, secondary and special schools from 10 local authorities across Greater Manchester battled it out, and there were some fine team and individual displays.
Failsworth High School claimed second spot behind Bolton in the badminton category, while Hulme Grammar came third in netball.
Schools joined forces to represent their regions, with Oldham clinching top place in disability and able-bodied swimming.
