CRICKET: BAMFORD Fieldhouse under-15s will face Greenfield in the Saddleworth and District League Leicester Shield final after winning at Saddleworth ‘A’.

Batting first, the visitors had Abbu Allam, making his third 50 of the season, to thank as they amassed 153 for four.

The home outfit needed to hit the ground running to be in with a chance of progression but their top three batsmen departed with only 13 runs to show for their efforts.

Ben Corbett led the resistance with 41 but Saddleworth ‘A’ were 55 runs shy of their goal when the final wicket fell.

MOORSIDE ‘A’ under-15s put one foot in the Saddleworth and District League Group One play-off final with a 50-run win against Saddleworth ‘B’.
Charlie Price’s vital half-century helped them reach 129 for four, before Saddleworth were restricted to 79, with James Howard making 23.

Depleted Austerlands, who occupy second spot, fielded only nine players in their 22-run home loss

Cricket to Uppermill — who themselves could only pick eight players, with summer holidays hitting clubs hard.

Batting first, Uppermill posted 129 for four. Their opponents found themselves on 82 for one after 10 overs and seemingly on course for victory.

But spinner Alan Truman claimed four for 22 in four overs, and Austerlands fell 24 runs short of the target.

Glodwick secured their first win of the season at home to Stayley.

Chasing 81, Saif Ahmed’s 51 helped them reach their goal with eight wickets in hand.

Group Two action saw Bamford close in on the title courtesy of a 22-run triumph over eight-man Friarmere.

They posted 117 for nine, with Ben Durrant notching 24. J White managed 51, but Friarmere ended on 95.

Shaw eased to victory over Greenfield, who recorded 111 for three thanks in no small part to Sam Fitton’s 55.

Shaw openers Adam Temple (53) and Lawrie Hughes (42) helped their side seal the win.

In the under-17s category, Greenfield earned a dramatic last-ball victory at Shaw.

The hosts made 120 for three, with Adam Temple contributing 53.

But their rivals won it at the death, with Mathew Rolf mustering an unbeaten 49.

Bamford Fieldhouse could not raise a team against Ashton and forfeited.
