Newell eyes winning return

The week-long event offers Newell the chance to bounce back from the defeat he
suffered last time out when representing his country in an international, which saw England take on Scotland, Italy and hosts Ireland.
The 17-year-old middleweight suffered an early hand injury against Scotland’s Grant Quigley which forced him to swtich to southpaw, and he eventually lost the contest 10-6.
But after a month of recovery, Newell hopes to return to winning ways next week.
Dad Tony said: “John was gutted about the Quigley fight — the injury ruined his chances. Now he can put it behind him.”
