RUGBY:
SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-16s got their North-West Counties Premier Division season up and running with a hard-fought 12-10 win at Wigan St Judes.
Jo Harrison-Brown notched the first try for the visitors, before Liam Parfitt and Jack Johnson exchanged passes to send Harrison-Brown in for his second. Brad Grantmyre converted both scores for a 12-0 half-time lead.
Playing up the hill and into the wind in the second period, Rangers found life tougher, but despite St Judes registering two tries and a conversion in the first six minutes — Rangers were also reduced to 12 men in the closing stages — they held on to take the points.
Robbie Coates topped the try-scoring charts as Rangers under-10s defeated Culcheth Eagles.
Coates crossed six times, with other tries arriving through Josh Yarwood (three), Fenton Rogers, Daniel Savage and Daniel Tromans.
Coates, Yarwood, Savage, Sam Eyres and Josh Wood kicked conversions, with the Eagles responding with a consolation score towards the end of the second period.
