Quartet on target for Waterhead

RUGBY: WATERHEAD under-15s defeated Widnes Moorfield 24-16. Danny Fairfoull, Billy McDermott, Harry Godfrey and James Tetlow all crossed, with Adam Wells converting on each occasion.
OLDHAM St Anne’s slipped to a 16-10 loss at the hands of Crosfields Cobras.
Saints found themselves 16-0 down following their opponents’ three unanswered tries, two of which were converted.
However, the hosts regrouped and stand-off James Barran ran 60 metres before crashing over on the stroke of half-time. Regan Croft goaled.
It was a much tighter affair in the second period, which saw Oliver Depetrillo cross.
Callum Travis was top tackler, Nathan Beech-Farrow earned man-of-the-match plaudits, and Alex Wiseman also impressed on his debut.
Saints under-10s edged out Wigan St Jude’s 28-24.
Finbar Martindale scored three tries, while Owen Smith and Sam Thackeray got one each.
Brandon Turner, Daniel Nixon, Martindale and Thackeray all converted.
SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-16s suffered a last-gasp 20-14 defeat against Orrell St James.
Jackson got two tries for Rangers, while James Fowles added one and Brad Grantmyre converted.
The under-12s lost 32-10 to a strong Wigan St Jude’s outfit in a 13-a-side game comprising of full international rules.
Rangers failed to score a point in the first half and trailed 20-0, but were much improved after the break.
Finn Gallagher touched down following a fine run and pass from Jay Taylor.
Will Wright added the extras.
Wright latched on to Matt Fletcher’s kick to add another try for the Saddleworth side late on.
The under-10s claimed an 18-8 triumph over Woolston.
Josh Yarwood crossed early on before missing the conversion, but he soon went over the line again left it to Sam Eyres to goal.
Conall Galbraith added an unconverted try before the break, as did Woolston.
The second period was a scrappy affair but Brendan Graham darted into the corner to score, capping a comprehensive victory.
Lewis Haigh, Kien Molloy and Eyres all featured for the opposition, who were left short on numbers due to injury.
