OLDHAM and Royton Harrier Christopher Brown was “really chuffed” after coming home eighth in the junior Great North Run.
Competing in the 13-14 age group, the Crompton House pupil finished the 4km course in 14 minutes 25 seconds.
It was Christopher’s first race back since recovering from injury.
Mum Deborah explained: “He missed five weeks because of joint inflammation.
“It meant him sitting out the nationals at Bedford — he had qualified for the under-15s 800 metres — and he was upset about that.
“He had only trained for a couple of weeks before the Great North Run, so he was really chuffed to finish where he did.”
This was Christopher’s third time in the race. He won it in 2009 when it was for 12 to 16-year-olds and was 19th in 2010.
The Royton teenager is now preparing for the cross-country season, which gets under way on October 8 with the start of the Red Rose League at Hyndburn, Accrington.
