UPHILL CHALLENGE: Crompton House girls locked together in the pack
Local schools fleet of foot in qualifying event
FOUR teams from Oldham are through to the North-West round of the English Schools Cross-Country Championships.
Representing Crompton House, the junior and intermediate girls joined intermediate boys in filling one of the top four qualifying places in the races held on Oldham Edge.
Also through are Blue Coat, who came fourth in the junior girls event.
The best result for a local team in the Greater Manchester stage of the nationwide competition was Crompton House’s excellent runners-up finish in the intermediate boys (Years Nine and 10).
Victory in the race went to West Hill School, Stalybridge, but Blue Coat just missed out by claiming fifth on the day.
Crompton House were third in the junior girls (Years Seven and Eight), with Blue Coat hot on their heels.
The winning team came from Loreto Grammar School, Altrincham, followed Altrincham Grammar School in second.
Crompton House also qualified in the girls intermediate, taking fourth spot behind Loreto Grammar School, who made it a double on the day.
Blue Coat were fifth, ahead of St Matthew's RC (Manchester).
There was no joy in the junior boys, with Crompton House in fifth place and Blue Coat sixth.
Manchester Grammar School were the winners, from West Hill (Stalybridge), Ashton-on-Mersey (Sale) and St Gabriels RC High School (Bury).
The North-West round takes place on November 12 at a venue to be decided.
