BASKETBALL:
MATHEW Marston made a bright start for Oldham Titans under-13s, who broke their duck for the season with a 78-59 victory over Stockport Falcons.
Making his debut for the team, he finished up as top-scorer in the England Basketball League’s North-West Conference win.
Leading by nine points at the end of the first quarter (24-15), Titans stretched their advantage to 47-30 at the half-way stage thanks several interceptions which set up swift breaks.
TITANS under-16s climbed to second place in the North Conference with a 65-55 victory at Gateshead Tornados.
Despite three-point shots from Aiden Kelly and Kameron Shorrock, Titans trailed 21-16 at the end of the first quarter. They were still adrift at the midway point, although the gap was cut to 34-32 against a side who they had beaten the previous week in the Sureshot Cup.
But Titans were unstoppable in the second period, at one stage scoring 10 points in two minutes.
