FOOTBALL:

GLEEFUL Greenhill Primary School claimed top-spot in the Hathershaw College Cluster football finals.

Aminur Rahman’s side, made up of Year Five and Year Six pupils, remained unbeaten throughout the group stage before winning three successive matches in the decisive round.

They were joined by Broadfield, St Martin’s, Holy Rosary, St Patrick’s, Werneth, Lyndhurst and St Thomas Werneth, with sides split into two leagues.

Greenhill, St Patrick’s, St Martin’s and Lyndhurst progressed to the final stage, and Mr Rahman’s lads beat all three opponents to clinch the silverware.

He said: “I was chuffed to bits to see the team perform so well against some very good sides.

“To go all the way to the final tournament and then win every match was a great feeling, and obviously the pupils were delighted.

“We won the competition a couple of years ago so we all wanted to repeat the achievement this time.”

There was also some personal glory in the Greenhill ranks. Uzair Iqbal was the top scorer in the finals, with four goals to his name.
