MEDAL MANIAL: Crompton House boys celebrate another Oldham Schools Cross-Country title.
CROSS COUNTRY:
CROMPTON House boys defended their Oldham Schools Cross-Country Championships title with a comprehensive overall victory.
They took top spot in the Year Eight, Nine and 10/11 categories, with Saddleworth’s triumph in Year Seven preventing a clean sweep.
Talented boys from 10 schools aged 11 to 16 tackled the challenging terrain over three kilometres in Chadderton Hall Park.
Blue Coat claimed the runners-up berth courtesy of fourth-place finishes in Year Seven and Eight, third in Year Nine and second place in Years 10/11. Third position went to Saddleworth, who were Crompton’s closest challengers in Year Eight and Nine but could only claim ninth position in Years 10/11.
Sarah Weir, of Crompton’s PE department, said: “It is a fantastic achievement to do so well in a competitive field. We are all just thoroughly proud of them for their dedication. Despite the fact there is competition for places in our team, which inevitably means people end up disappointed, the enthusiasm among the group has never been better.”
