One last push to reach Wembley

FOOTBALL: SOUTH Failsworth are closing in on a Wembley appearance after clinching victory in the npower Oldham FL Kids Cup.

Having beaten Christ Church 1-0 in the climax at Boundary Park through Joe Doran’s goal, they advance to the Northern final tournament at Huddersfield Town in March.

Triumph there and they will contest the overall final at the ‘home of football’ before the League One play-off final in May.

Not that they are strangers to the hallowed turf — South Failsworth appeared there in the same compeition in 2010, finishing national runners-up.

Oldham Athletic Community Trust hosted the event at the club, with 16 local primary school teams battling it out prior to Athletic’s 0-0 draw with Exeter City.



HEYSIDE under-16s won 3-2 against Bury in the Tameside Sunday League courtesy of a Martin Kenny brace and Tom Dunn’s effort. And they beat Ardwick 4-3 after Joseph Fagan’s double and goals from Aiden Pass and Ryan Baldwin.


BOUNDARY Park under-15s lost 2-1 to Broadway Celtic despite Ross Young’s effort.
And the under-12s also lost, exiting the League Cup after a 5-1 reverse at the hands of 3D Dynamos.

Harrison Marsh scored the consolation goal for Park.
