FOUR athletes will be flying the flag for Oldham in the County Schools Cross-Country Championships next month.
The quartet — Alex Procter, Chris Brown, Adam Howard and Matthew Shaughnessy — are in the Greater Manchester squad for the event in Somerset on March 17.
They were selected after each produced impressive performances at Longford Park, Trafford.
Representing the town in the Greater Manchester Cross-Country Championships, they all bagged top-six places to take on the nation’s best young runners.
Howard (Waterhead Academy) and Shaughnessy (Royton and Crompton) were a cut above their rivals in the Years 10 and 11 race, coming home first and second respectively.
Brown, of Crompton House, was runner-up in the Years Eight and Nine section. He was followed by Procter (Blue Coat) in sixth, helping the Oldham team to third spot overall.
