BASKETBALL:

DAVID Walsh scored 32 points for Oldham Titans under-16s in their 70-46 defeat of Gateshead Tornadoes in North Conference.

Titans, playing at home, edged the first quarter 13-12 but pulled away in the second, adding 25 to their tally and restricting the North-East team to just four.

Gateshead improved significantly in the third quarter, notching 12 points, but the Oldham outfit still mustered 20.

Despite suffering from fatigue in the final quarter, which Oldham lost 18-12, the hosts earned the points. The under-16s also played two games in the Greater Manchester Central Venue League.

They pipped Salford 22-19 in the dying seconds courtesy of Matthew Neary’s basket.

The lead changed hands several times throughout the course of the game before Neary struck.

This was followed by a 49-15 triumph over Bury. Oldham led 18-8 at half-time but hit top gear in the third and final quarters, plundering 31 points in comparison to Bury’s seven.

In the same league, the under-13s defeated Bury 31-21 after a fine second-half display, with Tom Sloyan scoring 11 points. And Oldham recovered from an 18-8 deficit to see off Trafford 45-41 as Ethan Buckley managed 15.
