A TALK from Leeds Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield inspired Broadfield School a first win in a rugby competition.
The Oldham-born stand-off, with the Super League trophy at his side, chatted to the children about his life and career during an afternoon visit.
And whatever he said had the desired effect as Broadfield triumphed in the Hathershaw College of Technology and Sport cluster schools tag rugby tournament.
“One of our players, Abdur Alam, kept repeating to himself what Kevin had told them in the talk — ‘never give up, never give up’,” said learning mentor Elaine Jolley.
“He really inspired the children, and it must have had an impact.
“We lost to St Martin’s in the round robin stage, but then beat them in the final.”
The visit was organised with the help of Gareth Barber, who works at Hathershaw and is a friend of the Rhinos star.
