Just champion!

TWELVE months of planning paid off as Saddleworth School’s netballers scooped national honours for the first time.

The talented under-14s team (Years Eight and Nine) hit the heights at Basildon Sporting Village in Essex.

Winners of the North-West region title, Saddleworth recovered from the disappointment of a sole defeat in the group section to be crowned schools champions.

Saddleworth lost to Brighton Girls College in the group stage, but by winning their other games they reached the last four.

With Altrincham standing between them and a place in the final, the girls held their nerve to record a 12-10 victory.

Facing Saddleworth in the duel for national glory were familiar foes Brighton Girls College, but this time the outcome was altogether different as they recorded a superb 13-10 triumph.

And the success story does not end there as they defeated Loreto Grammar School (Altrincham) 35-20 to be crowned Greater Manchester Schools League champions.
