Matt’s gloss finish
Date published: 04 May 2012
THERE were smiles all rounbd as Chadderton Park Eagles under-10s, inspired by a Matthew Berry’s four-goal salvo, clinched the North Bury Junior League Main Cup.
Losing finalists 12 months ago, the youngsters made no mistake this time with a 4-2 win over a well-organised Woodbank outfit.
But Eagles had to come from behind as their opponents went ahead in the first half. The final was all-square at the break, with Matthew Berry applying the finishing touch to a fine passing move.
Berry added two more to his tally after the restart, but Woodbank reduced the deficit after they were awarded a penalty.
It made for a nervous last five minutes, until Berry popped up to grab his fourth goal of the final.
GED Greaves was the star of the show as Boundary Park under-11s ‘A’ took over top spot in the Manchester Youth and Mini-Soccer League.
The young sharp-shooter struck five times in a 9-1 defeat of Failsworth West Lions.
CHADDERTON Juniors under-14s produced a stunning recovery to claim an unlikely 4-4 draw against Reddish Vulcans. Four goals adrift in the wind and rain, they hit back thanks to the efforts of Daniel Hawkins (two), James Larty and Stephen Golding
