HOSTS Hulme Grammar progressed in the Lancashire Schools’ Cricket Association David English Under-12s Schools Cup after narrowly beating Royton and Crompton.

Royton and Crompton set themselves up for victory in the second-round clash after restricting the home side to 85 for five from their allotted 20 overs.

Matthew Horn pulled off a superb catch from the bowling of William Avery, who claimed two wickets, while Liam Kershaw-Whittle, Cameron Whitworth and Matthew Bradley took the others.

Wet weather made batting conditions difficult and despite a valiant effort Royton and Crompton were dismissed for 54, Matthew Bradley leading the resistance with 16.

Hulme Grammar face the winners of Radclyffe School versus Waterhead Academy in the third round.

SADDLEWORTH and District Under-15s League action finally got under way this week.

Saddleworth ‘A’ enjoyed a 10-wicket victory at Glodwick.

The hosts reached 67 for two but James Howard’s 26 not out and an unbeaten 37 from James Holt ensured a comfortable victory for Saddleworth. Moorside enjoyed a six-wicket home win at the expense of Stalybridge St Paul’s, who were dismissed for 51.

Greenfield earned a 27-run triumph at Saddleworth ‘B’ after recording 96 for five. Saddleworth were restricted to 69 for six in reply.
