SADDLEWORTH under-17s saw off the challenge of visitors Micklehurst in the Saddleworth and District League Romida Trophy.
The hosts made 143 for four before restricting their opponents to 71 for three.
Moorside progressed after bowling out Stayley for 38. And Uppermill went through after posting 148 for two against Friarmere, who were 40 runs shy of their goal when they ran out of overs.
Under-15s action saw Greenfield open up a four-point lead with a win at Royton.
Footballing friends James Howard and Nathan Jones can look forward to representing the LCB this season.
James, of Saddleworth CC, is in the under-13s ‘A’ squad, while fellow Saddleworth School pupil Nathan, a member at Delph, is in the ‘B’ squad. The duo play football together for Uppermill under-13s.
James will play in the ECB 40-over competition and the Taunton Festival. Nathan will go to the Brighton Festival after a couple of warm-up games.
OLDHAM under-15s made a winning start to their Lancashire Schools’ Merit League programme with a three-wicket victory over Bolton at Woodhouses.
