GREENFIELD won an exciting contest against mid-table rivals Glodwick in the Under-17s Division of the Saddleworth and District Junior League.
The young lads from Ladhill Lane posted 112 for six, with Josh Lees retiring on 51.
Glodwick needed four runs to win off the last over with two wickets in hand. But Lees cleaned up the remainder of the Glodwick batsmen to clinch a one-run victory.
Leaders Ashton were handed the points after opponents Uppermill conceded the game.
Moorside (143 for three) moved up to second place with a 22-run win over Friarmere (111 for eight).
Austerlands (73 all out) slipped to third after suffering a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Micklehurst, who were registering only their second victory of the season.
Joe Wardle picked up five for 31 for Stayley, but his effort was in vain as Shaw (118 for eight) posted a 40-run win. Stayley were restricted to 78 for nine in reply.
Batting first, Saddleworth made 106 for five against Heyside, who fell short on 92 for eight.
Meanwhile, tonight sees the semi-finals of the Romida Trophy.
Greenfield will play host to Moorside and Saddleworth will welcome Austerlands to Well-i-Hole.
THE under-15s league section experienced another wash-out, but a number of Leicester Shield second-round ties have been settled.
At Warren Lane, the Glodwick club again succumbed by the narrowest of margins.
Taking first knock, opponents Micklehurst scored 97 before dismissing their hosts for 96.
Royton, including an unbeaten 50 from Aaron Tesz, enjoyed a 24-run win against Saddleworth ‘A’, who were dismissed for 72 in reply to 96 for three.
Saddleworth ‘B’ were awarded their tie against Droylsden, who were unable to re-arrange the fixture.
The Greenfield v Bamford Fieldhouse tie is still to be played.
