A STRONG defensive showing from Oldham's under-13s helped the team secure the Brean Sands title for the second year running.
In their 16th game of the weekend in Somerset, Oldham faced Turnford in the final. After racing into a 5-1 lead, tormenting the opposition, a second-half fightback threatened to turn the game on its head. Oldham managed to regain their steel to lift the trophy 7-5.
The team had shown its class on the first day of the tournament, winning all eight games and finishing top of the group. On day two, a mini-league was played out in order to determine the quarter-finalists — and Oldham were on fire. Games against Breakaways, Cheshunt, Cliftonnetes and Poole ended with Oldham topping a group of three, scoring 50 and conceding four.
A tough clash followed against Parkside in the last eight, but an emphatic 8-1 win sent Oldham through to play Jellybean, who were seen off 9-4.
Oldham, featuring several new additions since last year's triumph, will now enter next season's National Championship with increased confidence.
