Merciless Oldham add to trophy haul

ALL SMILES: Oldham Netball Club under-14s celebrate their victory.
NETBALL:
OLDHAM Netball club’s under-14s asserted their credentials by scooping top honours at the Brean Sands tournament — a run which included a merciless whitewash.
The National Championship winners showed their superiority by taking control and winning 19-0.
Alphabet Colts were the next victims. Though Oldham conceded their first goal, sharp shooting from Amy Clinton (12 from 12) and Rhianna Egan (two from two) plus captain Abby Tyrrell's six interceptions, gave Royals little breathing space in a 14-1 hammering.
Tunford, the top junior club in the South, were dispatched 11-5 as Oldham ended day one on top of their group.
The play-offs for the trophy came next and after seeing off Parkside of Birmingham 11-7 in the last eight, Oldham had to fight tooth and nail to get past familiar rivals Trafford.
In a thrilling clash, Oldham led 3-1 at half-time before being pegged back to a 6-6 draw at the end.
In extra time Oldham kept their cool and Clinton's shot put the team into the final 8-7.
Tameside provided the opposition herem with Oldham holding a 3-1 lead at half time.
After taking control in the second period, the team pushed to a 6-4 victory.
