RAISE A CHEER: Waterhead celebrate victory over Mayfield in the under-12s final.
RUGBY:
IT was a clean sweep for local sides in the Oldham Chronicle Youth Cup finals at Waterhead ARLFC.
A healthy turnout of supporters watched events unfold on a dry and breezy day.
The hosts’ under-12s side got the tournament under way with a 20-4 victory over Rochdale outfit Mayfield, with Mason Edmonson earning the boy-of-the-match tag.
James Barron was the star of the show as Oldham St Anne’s under-13s swept aside Mayfield 52-6.
Saints under-14s won by the same scoreline at the expense of their Mayfield counterparts, with Jack Etchells identified as the best player on the pitch.
Waterhead under-15s defeated Mayfield 24-16 despite the efforts of boy-of-the-match Jack Higginson.
And under-16s action saw Saints see off Saddleworth Rangers 36-22.
Saddleworth’s Dominic Elkin excelled in this encounter.
