ATHLETICS:
JET-HEELED Christopher Brown came within a whisker of the 800 metres final in the National Athletics Championships in Bedford.
The 14 year old from Royton finished fifth in the under-15s heats on 2:04.18 — five hundredths of a second off a coveted top-four place and guaranteed final spot.
Christopher, of Crompton House school, ended on a high by claiming a personal best of 39.15 in the 300m race.
Mum Deborah said: “Christopher was just glad to be there for the experience. It was bittersweet to do so well and narrowly miss out on the finals, but he feels good about his performance.”
He is next in the junior Great North Run in Newcastle on September 15.
