MICKLEHURST under-15s lifted the Saddleworth and District League’s Leicester Shield for the first time since 2004, with a 37-run victory at home to Royton.
On a slow pitch, both teams found the runs hard to come by. But Jake Cauldwell’s 37 helped the hosts reach 114 before the final wicket fell.
Aaron Tesz, capping another impressive campaign, was the pick of the Royton bowlers with a return of two for 14 off six overs.
Royton’s response was also slow as they struggled to get to grips with their opponents’ bowling.
They were eventually dismissed for 77.
Matthew Williams took three for five and Cameron Dooley two for 17 in the pick of the Micklehurst bowlers. Jake Cauldwell’s return of 37 earned him the boy of the match trophy.
