RUGBY:
OLDHAM RU Colts went down to a 22-14 home loss to Eccles Colts in a friendly.
The hosts had 25 players at their disposal and for the most part used them in unfamiliar roles.
Eccles controlled the majority of possession and an early unconverted try put them on the front foot.
Forward Adam Takila replied for Oldham, crossing after a scrum, and fly half Josh Pattison added the extras. But for some slack handling, the home outfit could have added more points.
After the break Oldham centre Jed Mawdsley received the ball 20 yards out and roared under the posts, Pattison improving the score.
But Eccles seemed to find another gear and pulled away with three unanswered tries, one of them converted.
