Jack the lad floors former champion

A TALENTED trio of boxers from Ben Lancaster’s Boarshaw gym impressed in the North-West regional championships in Gorton.

Mohammed Hamza (15) and 16-year-olds Jack Kilgannon and Danny Wright all pulled off convincing victories at Cedar Mount.

Kilgannon came through his test despite his opponent, Imran Fhah, having won the tournament in the past.

Fhah was floored in the second round by a fierce left jab. He got up but an array of shots rarely seen at amateur level secured the win for Kilgannon.

Wright’s aggressive, classy style was too much for Ali Khan, and he dominated throughout.

In only the fourth fight of his career, Hamza got the better of John Maroney courtesy of fast hands and clever footwork. He was on top in all three rounds and secured a comfortable win.

Lancaster said: “The lads were fantastic against good opponents and it bodes well for the future.

“They were in control of their fights.

“Jack and Mohammed are catching the eye and I predict big things for Danny.”
