NETBALL: DISPLAYING excellent speed and strength, Oldham Netball Club’s under-16s swept aside their Blackpool counterparts 104-19.
They meant business from the word go, with top-notch shooting from Amy Clinton and Amy Nield giving their side a 17-0 lead after five minutes.
Defenders Victoria Austin and Abby Tyrell gathered nearly every centre pass off Blackpool, allowing only a couple of goals to slip through.
Leading 32-2 at the first break, Oldham brought on goal attack Rhianna Egan and wing attack Megan Allingan. Those two carried on the good work. With a half-time score of 56-7, victory was in the bag, so Oldham made use of their 12-strong squad by introducing Imogen Campbell and Chimna Ebizie.
There was no let-up. Clinton, back on court at goal shooter, and alongside Egan and Bryony Rhodes, tore Blackpool’s defence to shreds, while goal keeper Jessica Dale gathered interceptions at will.
OLDHAM Netball Club under-14s also showed their class with a remarkable 111-2 win over Blackpool in the North-West Regional League.
Oldham powered into a 28-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter and never looked back. Relentless pressure made the half-time score 52-1.
The second half was no different, with attackers Morgan Evans, Olivia Brown and Jasmine Newell firing fast passes into the shooters. At no time did Oldham take their foot off the gas as they went beyond three figures.
