TWELVE-year-old swim sensation Alex Crossland-Robins has been crowned the British Gas Cheshire county champion.
Royton-based, but a starlet at the famous Stockport Metro club, Alex took part in the British Gas Cheshire county age group championships, which was spread over three weekends and took place in Macclesfield and Liverpool.
After some gutsy swims, in all Alex secured five gold medals, four silvers and two bronze medals - more than enough to see him crowned county champion.
Dad Dave and mum Angie were both extremely proud of his efforts, as he set new personal best times in almost all of his races.
Clearly his Stockport Metro training programme is paying off handsomely.
Alex secured gold medals in the 200m backstroke (in a time of two minutes, 25.52 seconds), the 200m individual medley (2:31.27), the 100m backstroke (1:10.26), the 200m butterfly (2:37.01) and the 1,500m freestyle (18:30.40).
Silver medals came in the 100m butterfly (1:13.14), 200m freestyle (2:12.84), 400m freestyle (4:38.52) and 50m backstroke (34.12).
The bronze medals came in the 100m freestyle race (103.75) and the 200m breatstroke (2:58.02).
Alex - a pupil at the Royton and Crompton school - will next be in action in April at the Stockport Open level one meet.
