England call-up delight for Amir

NINE-year-old table tennis ace Amir Hussain has been selected to represent England Schools next month at a national tournament in Dublin.
Amir, who plays for the Hollinwood club in the Oldham and District Table Tennis League, came to the attention of selectors after winning the recent Greater Manchester Schools’ Championship.

Proud dad Khamal said: “This is great new for Amir. We go to Dublin on April 5 and he will then be in among players from Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey.
“We’re all delighted for him because he’s worked so hard since taking up the game at the age of five.
“If he keeps up this current rate of progress then who knows just how successful he will become.”
Amir is undoubtedly a big star at the Hollinwood club, whose teams play their games at the Hulme Grammar School complex.
Oldham and District Table Tennis League chairman Ken Dunkerley is also very proud of the young protege’s latest selection achievement.
